It was an ill wind from the north

that blew winter in yesterday!   Won’t be bragging about the roses much longer – there is one frozen one still hanging on down at the greenhouse.   The small lakes around the country are starting to freeze up, so the swans have moved on to the lake. An even dozen of them flew in, in perfect formation.  In the summer I wonder why I don’t pull the few weeds that grow at the beach, but in late fall, before the lake freezes the swans come in and eat them up.  They look wonderful, so close to the shore.  They are certainly a hardy breed with -10 C and a brisk wind not seeming to bother them!
